Most employers on Caribbean Hotel Jobs are real hotels, resorts and restaurants. But fake job offers are common in the Caribbean, especially for overseas and cruise jobs. A few simple checks keep you safe.

The one rule

Real employers never ask you to pay for a job. Not for applying, interviews, training, uniforms, medicals, travel, a visa or a work permit. If someone asks you for money, stop. It is a scam, even if the job looks real.

Warning signs

  • You are offered a job without an interview, or the pay is much higher than normal for the role.
  • Someone messages you first on WhatsApp, Telegram or Facebook about a job you did not apply for.
  • They ask for money, gift cards, crypto or a "refundable deposit".
  • They ask for your passport, bank details or ID before you have had a real interview.
  • They want you to "like", "review" or "rate" hotels online for pay. This is a known scam.
  • The email address is a free one (like Gmail) for a big hotel company, or the company name is spelled slightly wrong.
  • They push you to decide fast.

What real employers do

  • They interview you, often by WhatsApp video call, phone or in person.
  • They give you the job details in writing: pay, hours, housing, meals and start date.
  • If you need a work permit, the employer applies for it. Any official government fee is paid to the government, and the employer will explain who pays it.

Check before you go further

  • Look for the "Verified" tick on the employer's profile. It means we checked the business is real and registered.
  • Search the hotel's name and call its main phone number (from its own website) to ask if the job exists.
  • In Jamaica, check that a recruitment agency is on the Ministry of Labour and Social Security's list of licensed agencies.
  • Talk to someone you trust before you send documents or money anywhere.
